The Top 6 Green Practices We Use and How We Avoid Greenwashing

Now of course, we’re still growing and have a ways to go to be as eco-conscious as humanly possible; we can make mistakes and still produce waste, but it’s a part of our mission to be better and do the most we can everyday to give you jewelry that’s better for you and the planet.

So without further ado, let’s go over the top 5 green practices we’ve implemented into Terra Moderne:

1. Carbon Offsetting

With every purchase made on our site, we offset carbon emissions produced during the process by planting a tree. Trees serve a multitude of purposes and by planting one, we not only help to restore the planet but keep local and global communities healthy. This is also one of our efforts to give back and engage in more social and environmental causes.

2. Energy Efficient Facilities

If you’re anything like me, you don’t like to waste; that includes food, time, and most importantly energy. We ensure all working facilities, from our home base to artisans, use effective energy and water saving techniques. Some practices include using natural and LED lighting, smart thermostats to regulate cooling, and reusing water in the jewelry making process.

3. Recycling Metals & Materials

Its no surprise that we use recycled metals in our jewelry making process; we have a number of brass and aluminum earrings that are 100% recycled, with more metals (like gold and silver) coming soon! We plan to have our entire line of jewelry made out of recycled metals as there are so many benefits to it, like how it requires less energy and preserves natural resources. It also emits less carbon dioxide and other harmful gasses.

4. Biodegradable Accessories

Spoiler Alert! We’ll be introducing some fun accessories soon, just in time for the upcoming holiday season too! Just like our jewelry, our other product lines benefit you and the planet. We never use toxic dyes or chemicals and always make sure our products are either biodegradable, recycled, upcycled, reusable and so on.

5. Recycled Packaging Materials

For us, it’s not enough to have eco-friendly products; we need to have eco-friendly packaging materials, too. Recycling and reusing are big parts/focuses for our brand, so it’s only natural we incorporate these principles into every facet of the brand as much as possible. Our shipping boxes are made of recycled cardboard, our tissue paper is FSC certified, we use recycled notecards and crinkle paper, and our jewelry pouches are made out of biodegradable jute and linen.

6. Small Batch Production

Every year, billions of unsold products across industries go wasted and thrown into landfills. We do our best to avoid mass production by creating limited quantities of each item we make; this helps curb waste and landfill contributions. That being said, we also know how important it is to make sure everyone has a chance to purchase what they love, so we create waitlists whenever an item sells out.

That about sums up some of the things we do to be a more green business, and I promise you that over time we will grow and continue to make strides towards more eco-friendly practices. We always operate with integrity and transparency, and will never make ourselves seem like something we’re not. With that said, I invite you to ask any questions you may have and/or submit any comments/suggestions below  this post. Until next time ✨

Yours Truly,

Kyla Jones
